10 Tonne dumper recovery

The Challenge

We were called to assist with the recovery of a 10‑tonne tracked dumper that had become heavily bogged on a remote construction site. The location was approximately 150 miles from our base, with limited access and poor ground conditions, making a fast, safe, and environmentally responsible recovery critical to avoid extended site downtime.

Our Approach

To respond swiftly and effectively, we selected our Mercedes‑Benz Unimog U430 as the prime recovery vehicle due to its high road speed and exceptional off‑road capability. The Unimog was equipped with our Rydam Universal hydraulic front‑mounted winch, providing the power and control needed for a complex off‑road extraction.

Our recovery team mobilised quickly to site and, upon arrival, conducted a full risk assessment and pre‑task briefing with all personnel. A step‑by‑step recovery plan was established to ensure the operation was carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimal environmental impact.

Careful winching techniques, ground protection measures, and constant communication between team members ensured controlled recovery of the dumper.

The Result

  • The 10 tonne tracked dumper was safely recovered to the roadside without damage.
  • The operation was completed on schedule with no environmental impact.
  • The client was able to resume work immediately, reducing project disruption.
  • The recovery showcased our ability to deploy rapidly nationwide and deliver complex off‑road recoveries safely and professionally.
